Big Brother App

Challenge

After completely redesigning the Big Brother website, Netro42’s remit expanded to include the creation of native iOS and Android apps aimed at increasing engagement with the TV show, offering audiences more access to information and the ability to interact directly with the show.

Solution

Working to incredibly tight deadlines imposed due to the design of the Big Brother ‘eye’ logo being held back until the last minute (partly due to paranoia about leaks), our design team originated a striking look and feel for the apps – integrating video players, news articles, promos, pop-up picture galleries and crucially, the voting functionality.

The apps not only allowed users to vote online for their favourite contestants as an alternative to telephone voting, they also featured completely separate polls which were used to let viewers influence key aspects of the show, including what kind of punishment the contestants should face!!!

Results

Channel 5 reported a significant uplift in user engagement via the apps – particularly on the Celebrity Big Brother edition – and we went on to rebrand and refresh the designs to reflect the changing eye logos and associated colour palettes for subsequent seasons.
